Political Experience

For more than two decades, citizens in Davidson County have counted on Tim Garrett for strong, capable and responsive representation.  From 1983 through 2004, and again from 2007 through 2011, Tim has represented urban and rural regions of Davidson County on Metro Council and in the state legislature. He has served with four Tennessee governors and five Nashville mayors. 

Metro Government

Tim Garrett was elected to Metro Council At-Large in August 2007.  Vying for one of five open At-Large seats during a history-making election, Garrett was the only candidate to avoid a run-off election by capturing more than 10 percent of the vote. He occupies Seat #1 in the Council Chambers. 

From 1983 to 1999, Tim Garrett represented the 10th District (Goodlettsville area) of Davidson County on Nashville Metro Council. He has served with Mayors Fulton, Boner, Bredesen and Dean. Now the longest-serving member of Metro Council, Tim Garrett has served on and chaired nearly every committee in Metro government and has been elected to key positions including President Pro-Tem. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential council members and was voted Best City Councilman by Nashville Scene.

State Government

As a house member of the 94th through 101st General Assemblies, Tim Garrett represented the 50th Legislative District from 1984 through 2004 serving with Governors Alexander, McWhortor, Sundquist and Bredesen. During his tenure as Tennessee State Representative, Tim Garrett served on a variety of committees, including:
